Suggestion
Ottawa Transit (LRT) has not been reliable, and ridership is not trending in a direction that supports this vision that significantly more ppl will commute with transit.
Suggestion
I am not clear where the accessible parking locations and pick-ups would be in this layout - it seems like for a campus that experiences extreme cold weather for a majority of the school year, that we're pushing accessible access way out from the center of campus.
Question
So the Adjidjak entrance isn't intended to get vehicles to the parking lots?
Suggestion
Concerns with turning Wabisheshi into a Pedestrian Priority Street on the south end of campus is the vehicles we'd have coming into the loading dock areas for the Student Commons and Hospitality area (large vehicles that would need access at all times of the day and evening)

Also, the potential future extension of Adjidjak towards the parking would be essential to get people to the parking areas (otherwise the campus loses access for vehicles and really pushes almost all traffic to the Navaho/Wabishesh entrance)
Suggestion
I agree that generally a pedestrian-friendly campus is a good goal - we have to keep in mind that our location in the city isn't in a high pedestrian traffic area (like U of Ottawa would be), and that being mostly a commuter campus that we can't push parking so far out that our event and rental and ancillary spaces become unattractive to our students, clients, or guests to attend activities or events on campus in off-peak times.
Suggestion
The Official Plan's Hub policies for the Outer Urban encourages the reduction in overall parking. Any new parking shall not be visible from the public realm. Where surface parking is located beside a building should limit the width of a built-edge gap.
Suggestion
There is no reference to the City’s Design Guidelines. There should be a reference in Section 6 - Development Guidelines to assist future concept development and to be consistent with City objectives, particularly for development sites that are adjacent to Navaho Drive and Woodroffe Avenue. For Sites A, F and any others that would classified as high-rise or near the transit station; they should reference the City’s Design Guidelines for High-Rise Buildings and Transit Orientated Design.
Suggestion
3. Given the site is within a Hub designation of the OP and is a Design Priority Area, City staff would recommend the consulting team to attend the Urban Design Review Panel to present the initial Campus Master Plan. This would not be a requirement since a Planning Act application is not being made, but given the significance of land use, location, and density proposed, City staff are happy to work with the consulting team to present to the panel.
Suggestion
While an active edge may not be required along the entirety of Navaho Dr., all efforts should be given to avoid blank facades and this should be referenced in the Site Guideline. This could be achieved either through, architectural articulation, glazing, art, etc.
Question
In the MUR, would a mixed-use building require an academic space or active use on at-grade, like the MUA?
Question
The City understands active uses as uses or spaces that can be accessed to people entering the building. Is a lab an active use for the College? Is the intent to showcase lab work from the windows along the public realm?
Question
Large trucks delivering food and goods will be required to access the loading dock of ARC, the Front of the existing Residence and a new loading dock in the new F building. The angle of the turn in from Navaho maybe difficult for an 18-wheeler.
Question
Learner Driven?
Suggestion
Please use an image showing the front of the panels not the back
Suggestion
Should we include something related to the employee point of view? We have been recognized a national capital region top employer for several years running - we want to ensure that this plan continues to support AC as a vibrant place to work, particularly in an era where hybrid work and work-life balance are becoming more important for current and potential staff. The quality of the facilities continues to play a vital role in attracting top talent to our college.
Suggestion
Yhis statement is incorrect as we will be looking at options do convert the central plant from a carbon-intensive fuel source (nat gas) to a low-carbon source (air source, ground, hydrogen...). An example would be what Fanshaw College is doing. Simply reword this last sentence
in reply to Patrick Devey's comment
Suggestion
in an ever-increasing competitive landscape, where traditional direct-entry pathways (from the NCR) are becoming less and less relevant, how do we ensure that AC becomes a destination of choice for learners (domestic and international).
Suggestion
more about being competitive to attract students?
Suggestion
Our recent audit has suggested otherwise (that we have room to accommodate the current infrastructure). The new strategic plan and academic plan will likely push for additional use of technology to offer more flexibility in program delivery (more blended programs, more online, etc.). In that context, the physical needs would be for more/enhanced experiential learning spaces, not so much the traditional classrooms.
Suggestion
These 3 points seem to talk to the learner experience - i think we should make this section more intentional with that lens (perhaps as a header?).
Between online delivery and very restrained international enrolment growth, we should ensure that growth assumptions remain valid
Question
Community?
Question
How do we address future proofing this document given that at least two new strat plans will be released during the lifecycle of this master campus plan?
Suggestion
Suggest we put the ACO line last in this paragraph. Currently reads like international students are linked to online programming (they are not). We might also add some enrolment numbers here as ACO represents the second largest campus at Algonquin.
Perhaps more than an 'update'
I still question some assumptions around enrolment growth at the current time.
Question
This might be later in the report but do we have plans for better naming of our Ottawa campus buildings? We have outgrown the letters (e.g. Building P, Building S) and they are a legacy of the past that we should be moving from.
Suggestion
This is a really great visual of the future campus! If I wasn't as familiar, I'd have trouble distinguishing the campus from the surrounding community. Perhaps making the buildings in the surrounding community a grey colour would help with that.
Suggestion
I wonder if we should start referring to "visitors" as "community members". Visitors are temporary but community members are welcomed and the campus is seen as accessible to them. It's subtle, but can be a powerful reference.

In the new Strategic Plan, we are considering expanding the focus areas of Learner-driven and People-focused to include Community-oriented. That orientation starts with our campuses.
Suggestion
There are only three current strategic goals. What is listed as #3 should be the end of #2.
Suggestion
let's validate these enrolment figures ... I believe we are closer to 21,000 with 35% international students
Suggestion
Provide the updated Algonquin College Land Acknowledgement.
